Book Review | The Man Ban by Nicola Marsh

I really enjoyed this light, fun read.

Harper’s first encounter with Manny was not great. He insults her work right off the bat. However, as time passes and he ends up helping her she sees he’s more than their first encounter. She is on a no men stint after a relationship gone sour. Manny is the one that will never settle down. When they finally see what the other has to offer as far as relationships go, things may change.

Then, there are the families. The are so complicated but so real at the same time. Annoying even but real. Add in the food element and you have a winner.

This is so worth a read! If you love enemies to lovers, hate to love, never serious to all in romances then this is one for you.

I would definitely by this for friends that like romances like this.

Book Review | Sparks Like Stars by Nadia Hashimi

Sitara is just a young girl but her experiences are many. She will find herself without her family, left behind without anyone. Her savior, a man her family trusted to protect them is not someone she wishes to be saved by. How did he not save them?

As Sitara finds herself on a new path that leads her to America, she will suffer much more by the hands that are supposed to care for her and protect her before she finds her final home with the American Diplomat that becomes her family.

Aryana is a successful surgeon that try’s to help people when she can. While the business she is in sees much death, she is the doctor her father always hoped she would be.

Her boyfriends has always been on the same page with her with children and marriage. That is until now. He has decided his chances of becoming a politician would be better if they were to make some changes in their relationship. She is worried because she has a complicated past that she hasn’t mentioned in all this time and now it seems to late to tell him but with the turn their relationship seems to be going she knows she must tell.

I loved Nadia Hashimi’s writing and Mozhan Marno did an excellent job bring it to life with her narration. I didn’t want to stop listening the whole time.

This story has so much within that it keeps you interested and doesn’t get stale. This has death, grief, trauma, the foster care system, immigration, achievement, family relationships, governmental powers and much more. I was so glad I read Spark Like Stars. I don’t know why it took me so long.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys historical fiction, women overcoming their past, and stories of other cultures. I will definitely be adding this one to my favorite/must read lists.

Book Review | Dreaming of Christmas

Zoe is invited to a holiday with her old friends by one of their old friends who is now rich and able to easily provide a holiday for them all.

When her boss finds out who she is going to be vacationing with, he is determined to have a story. Will his antics work to persuade her to do the story that no one else can get just because they are old friends, or will she risk her job to keep his privacy?

Billy is a wealthy entrepreneur with a fondness for the relationships of the past. He and his wife invite several of his old friends for the holidays.

Zoe has to confront her ex while away on holiday. Will her feelings for Grant return, or will she find someone new?

All of Zoe’s friends have problems of their own, and when Zoe finds out more than she imagined, will she be able to handle it, or will she crumble?

Zoe and Billy get closer and closer throughout the holiday. They are constantly off skiing together and finding plenty to do together all alone.

Billy has a secret of his own. Will it turn Zoe against him once and for all?

Overall, this was an interesting romance with plenty going on. There are multiple people to keep track of, so if that is something you dislike, you might want to skip this one, but I found it pretty easy to follow. I think this is going to be a cute holiday read. If you like skiing, snow, Christmas vacations, friendships, drama, ex’s and so much more, this might be something for you.

Although this is portrayed as a Christmas story, there are not as much Christmas in the story as you might think. There is Christmas Day at the end of the book, and there’s talk of presents, but overall, the Christmas vibe just wasn’t there for me.

I did really enjoy this story, and I think Anne Marie Piazza did a great job narrating this book. However, I did think the men’s voices were very similar and kind of weird, even creepy. I do think I would listen to more narrations by her, though.
