Book Review | The Girl in Red by Christina Henry

This book was not for me. I would have to give it a ⭐️/5.

This was somewhat memorable because of the garbage that was pushed in this book. There were plenty of “hate the white man”. How the hell is someone really going to be hunting down black and mixed people during a major pandemic, screaming racial slurs and shooting them. Then, there is the fact that this girl is so self obsorbed that she doesn’t take into account anyone else’s opinions on things, even her own parents and brother.

How is the mom not as “prepared” as her family when they aren’t really prepared either. And what mother only owns heels? (Maybe? 🙄) If you had a pair of running shoes or something similar I’m sure it would work great for walking to grandma’s house. Which if you have a car why would you waste the fuel to go try to find a pair of boots when you could probably get pretty far with the car. At least half way. And like it states in the book, why would you start a hike without breaking in your shoes. But if there is no one left and all the stores are closed how are you going to buy shoes. You mean take them. If there’s any left. Sheesh!

Then, who the hell piled up all those dead bodies burning if there’s no one left. Also, how come the mom is such a weak, feeble, priss. Ugh! Then, how come she gets this virus the second she takes off her mask that the child insisted they all wear? If it’s airborne and all in the air they are standing in then every eye and any open wound would also be susceptible to it. Which no one else got sick. And then the mom is so sick right after. Like it took affect that quick? Really!?

Also, is everyone wearing a mask the whole time because if that’s the only way to protect yourself from dying from this virus then why don’t I recall it everywhere else in the book.

Then, there’s the brother. Oh, brother! He is a doozy. How is an experienced hiker going to pack everything but what is needed to survive? That is the most absurd crap.

You don’t trust the military men and won’t get a test because you think the military created the virus and now wants to give it to you.

The strange scene at the old man’s is so weird. You aren’t going to trust anyone and neither are these children you picked up but you go into his house. Tell him you have a prosthetic and then proceed to get naked and take showers and eat his food. Then, sleep without any caution or worry. Not to mention, who the hell is worried about people taking off their shoes and taking them into the laundry room during a situation like this? Weird.

The whole I will kill you with an ax but won’t touch a gun shit was ridiculous to say the least. I’m sorry but if I’m in a kill or be killed situation, I want that gun. And who is going to truly win against three men with guns or a child yielding an ax? Hmmm? Then, you use the ax on a mutant tape worm that’s set on killing you, created by the government and wonders if or when it will die. Oh my!

Then, she randomly shows up at grandma’s house and she’s in there cooking something that smells good because of course her house is all decked out with everything you’d need and no one else has happened upon her house.
